Presensation
It's no longer a secret: the Internet is evolving, and... unfortunately not always in the right direction.
Over the years, platforms slowly started to favoured the shortest, most viral and most engaging content. With the arrival of Tiktok, then Shorts on Youtube, and other similar format, It has become increasingly difficult for more elaborate or specialized content to find its audience.
In addition to this, there is another major development: the democratization of artificial intelligence (AKA "The Great Slopization")
Articifial intelligence
Some studies estimate that over 40 billion images have been generated by AI since 2022[1]. In the music industry, Deezer reports that approximately 40% of new tracks uploaded to its platform are generated by artificial intelligence[2]. And obviously video follows a similar trend, with a growing share of content produced partially or entirely by algorithms[3].
This amount of content makes discovering human creations more difficult and reinforces recommendation mechanisms that are already largely oriented towards quantity and engagement.
Why FairPlay ?
FairPlay is an open-source video platform that puts creators, viewers, and transparency at the heart of its operation.
Our goal is not to compete with YouTube.
We know it's impossible to compete with the technical and financial resources, or popularity of a platform used by (literally) billions of people. But that's not our ambition either.
We believe that a platform of this size faces constraints that make it difficult to achieve truly human moderation, fair visibility for creators, or complete transparency on how the platform works.
We prefer to build a human-scale platform that is open and transparent.
That's why we offer :
- An open source platform;
- A documented public API;
- A human moderation;
- Interface choices that prioritize quality over engagement;
- Governance that is as transparent as possible.
Some of these features are still under development to this day
FairPlay is first and foremost a community project. Its development will depend on its contributors, creators, and users.
We hope to build, together with them (and with you!), a more open, transparent, and human-centered video platform.
